儒 · 釋 · 道
Hinzen brings together Taoist, Buddhist and Confucian traditions to help people understand Chinese religious teachings, worship, blessings, family rites and ceremonies throughout life.
The Three Teachings
The Three Teachings—Confucian, Buddhist and Taoist—have influenced Chinese spiritual, community and family life for generations. They are not always treated as competing religions. Within many families, their values and practices naturally sit alongside one another.
Hinzen’s ministers explain these teachings in clear language, helping people understand the meaning behind worship and ceremony before deciding which traditions they wish to follow.
Taoist teaching
Taoism teaches harmony with the Dao—the natural order that moves through all life. Ceremonies seek balance between the physical and spiritual worlds, offer protection and guide people through important moments of change.
Taoist practice may include purification, prayer, formal petitions, blessings, protection rites, festival observances and ceremonies for families, homes and communities.
Buddhist teaching
Buddhist teaching encourages compassion, mindfulness and an understanding of cause and consequence. Chanting scripture, making offerings and dedicating merit can form part of personal, family and community practice.
Hinzen’s Buddhist observances may include chanting, blessings, repentance rites, prayers for peace, merit dedication and ceremonies marking significant occasions.
Confucian tradition · 儒
Confucian values place importance on family responsibility, filial respect, social harmony and gratitude towards parents and ancestors. These principles can be seen in family etiquette, rites marking important stages of life and continuing acts of remembrance.
Family traditions vary according to region, surname and lineage. Hinzen listens first, then helps preserve the customs that remain meaningful to each household.
Rituals and ceremonies
The Three Teachings can be reflected in many different observances. The appropriate prayers, ministers and ceremonial form depend on the purpose, family tradition and occasion.
